When I moved in to my apartment it hadn’t been cleaned at all. The floors were sticky, there was rotten food still in the cabinets, and the walls were littered with painters tape marking spots that needed repairs. There was water damage in the ceiling above the main entrance that had been painted over, and there was trash littering the yard even though both trash cans were full from whoever lived there before. This house we were renting has 2 washers and dryers, and neither set worked upon our arrival. Our basement had flooding in it from a dehumidifier that had been poorly maintained and broke, which caused mold to appear in some spots. When we requested for MiddleTown to clean up after the mess that never should have been there, they told us there was nothing they could do about it and that “We own over 2,000 properties in the area, we can’t just fix your stuff on a moments notice.” I personally went into their office at least 4 or 5 times to ask that they at least clean up the standing water that was in our basement. MiddleTown ended up cleaning our basement after a month, only after we had to threaten to withhold our rent until they were willing to even come to the property to see the state of the house. Additionally, this was listed as a 6 bedroom house, and when we moved in one room didn’t legally fit the requirements to call it a bedroom (the dimensions of the room were too small, it was not insulated and water leaked in when it rained) and the other 2 were both located in basement, and were unlivable because of the water damage.
