We moved in under Middletown in June of 2024. It was my boyfriend and I’s first place together and we were excited, then we started hearing the horror stories, then the group….
upon move in we had no smoke detectors. In Indiana that is illegal, and that should’ve been our first red flag. Should’ve put everything back up on the U-haul and left. But we didn’t.
Also upon move in, we put in requests for multiple things (leaking and loose faucets, we had broken window panes, only 1 window had screens, we had a non-functional back door, DIRTY SOCKS taped in a doorway for weather stripping, plus much more. They came and fixed one faucet, and replaced the socks for actual weather stripping (but only at the top?)
After that things were uneventful until the house next to us started getting worked on. We came home at 1 in the morning after work to find we had no siding on our house, and woke up next morning to them putting it on, all without any notice. Not illegal, just really ignorant.
When the neighbors moved in, one of them got hired at Middletown as a maintenance man. This same employee did donuts constantly in the yard, destroying ALL of the grass in their yard and ours. Revving diesel trucks RIGHT outside our house all the time, clear up until 11/12 at night when we have a child trying to sleep. Even changed out a water heater, then brought the broken one from who knows where and dumped it in our yard. When everyone else kicked him out, he broke our mailbox for the second time. Middletown then pushed off fixing it for over a month (as I type this, 8 more weeks of our lease, we still have no mailbox)
In January of 2025, when it started getting below 0 at times, our pipes froze…. a total of 4 times. The first 3 times, we did not call, we thought maybe we hadn’t let enough water trickle, or we should’ve opened cabinets, but by the 4th time, we knew 100% it was not our fault when the third day the temp was 50 and still no water. When we called them, they sent someone out, they basically shrugged their shoulders, gave us heaters (again- it was already 50 degrees though?) and left. No offer of a hotel room or anything. Next morning I reached out multiple times asking about an ETA on maintenance, as myself and my daughter had not been home in days, all of my messages and calls went ignored. Later that evening, I was texted from Middletown saying the couldn’t do anything as our water was disconnected due to non pay. I received this text from them AS I was on the phone with the water company stating our water was never disconnected at all. So they LIED to us to avoid accountability and leave us in a house with no water, which is against Indiana codes. They ignored me up until I threatened to call the city. Suddenly my water was back on, thought I wasn’t informed until next morning by Middletown (I found out only because I gave up and went home) we never got any explanation as to what happened to our water or how it was fixed. This bothers me GREATLY as the water company informed us that our usage TRIPLED in January/February… the months that we hardly had water and weren’t even showering here as our water heater wouldn’t get past lukewarm and our house hadn’t been properly insulated. We never got any answers or compensation for our tripled water bill.
Finally, our final straw, was March 21st, when one of their leasing agents showed up to our house unannounced to show our property to prospective tenants….. and then came in our home when she was ignored. This breaks not just Indiana codes but our lease SPECIFICALLY states 12 hours notice minimum notice.
I have never, ever, EVER experienced a worse company. Careless, lazy, avoidant, stupid people in that office. They need to never be able to take advantage of people ever again. They robbed my boyfriend and I over a year of trying to save money, robbed of being able to enjoy our first place together, robbed my daughter of being able to enjoy our home or yard, and just in general robbed us all of being able to have a happy home to come to.
I hope they all rot. Disrespectfully.
DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. I’d much rather live in my car.
