I rented through them prior to this current time before in either 2020 or 2021 in one of the Canterbury townhomes, however, I lived with three other people at the time as well and, usually they handled the communication. But, I remember having central air and the air conditioning went out through the whole little community, and they solved it by proving everyone with A window unit, for a two story 3 bed unit when there was a HEAT WARNING… and at the time I ended up leaving the property due to my partner who was one of the people on the lease… being abusive and despite me having a video of him when he was threatening to kill me, Middletown was refusing to let me off the lease and we had to threaten a lawsuit then for them to drop it and leave me alone about the matter because my safety was a concern if I had stayed. NOW my current boyfriend and I are renting through them again, I gave them the benefit of the doubt as my experience with them was a few years ago, and we had limited time to secure a place…. Moved in June 10th 2024 in 710 W Kilgore Ave (apt. 2), and from the first day of moving in the unit that was listed as central air, was not. One of the reasons we even signed here out of some of the other properties we toured, is because this one was supposed to be central air, it was literally something we were looking for in a place and this unit just happened to be the only unit we toured that offered it.. little did we know. The thermostat was reading 87 degrees as we were unloading the U-Haul, despite it being set to 51, because we were curious if it would actually even make a difference. Even stayed at a hotel that night as we waited for our mattress to be delivered the next day, I’m glad we did as the temperature in the apartment never dropped. We had put in a work order day one for that and we never saw a person come out to even look at the HVAC system, but the order was marked completed. Told Keith, the property manager, that it was never solved, and he said he was under the assumption it was considering it was marked as such. Come to find out that the basement was locked, and the next person who came out to take a look, after submitting another maintenance request about the matter, that they didn’t even have a key on hand, and he had to call the office to “find it” which just confirmed that no one had been out previously as this was a first we even heard about the key issue. We had to buy box fans to stay cool. Keith told us that they were waiting on a part to be ordered to fix the HVAC, and we haven’t heard anything since, I haven’t talked to Keith personally since either, he won’t return my calls despite leaving voicemails and even asking the ladies in the office to have him give us a call, he’s personally told me before that he would be in touch and then he fell off the face of the earth. Their next solution instead of fixing our central air (as stated through Indiana that all maintenance requests are to fixed at most within a couple of weeks) and was never done, especially considering the unit was listed as such, was to give us, just like the last time I rented through them.. a window unit. In which I personally asked for one for every room, because it’s the least they could do. Even the heat is spotty, the bathroom is the only room in the unit that holds heat, two other vents don’t blow out anything, and the other two vents don’t blow out nearly enough OR sometimes the air will be cold. Our thermostat has been set the same temperature at 75 for a few months now but the number was reading 63 when I got home from work this morning (01/14/25) and considering the negative degree weather we are about to get it’s quite concerning. They have someone scheduled to come out tomorrow, hopefully they actually handle the problem this time. For today they offered us space heaters, but we’re nervous to utilize them as we have cats and we worry about them and their safety, rather it’s accidentally getting burnt on it or knocking it over. The unit was also listed as fenced in, and majority of the fence isn’t even put up, and the broken portion is leaned up against the part that is actually still standing. We asked prior to even signing the lease if that’s something they would be willing to get fixed, as otherwise it’s not fenced in as listed…. Wasn’t fixed by move in so naturally, as part of the move in inspection we reported it and made a request…. Here we are 8 months later, and 3-4 work orders later, still nothing has been done. Once again, when I was first in contact with Keith he claimed it was marked as completed, so he just assumed and said he would personally be out to take a look and never once came by. Our most recent work order for the fence was 10/11/24, and we personally had it put in at the office, and it said a technician was contacted for 10/14/24, then again sometime in December… almost 4 whole months later it’s still not fixed, even after personally having one of the ladies put it in for us, she even asked if we’ve put in a work order before for it. Yes multiple times, I still have the picture from the move in day that I used to submit the work order. And if you asked me…. If someone was going to come out and fix the fence they had plenty of time to fix it when the weather was warm, can’t imagine anyone is actually going to come out anytime soon in the cold and snow to put it back up, if it’s even in the type of condition to do so, they may have to rebuild it completely with the shape it’s in. The apartment was an absolute mess upon move in, it was obvious it was not cleaned prior… there was dirt and screws on the floor, trash still stuffed under the sink (I still have all these pictures), and there’s a bunch of trash still under the deck as there was a raccoon problem, and we would often find 2-3 of them in our trash bins, and they were finding a way to get into our ceilings and walls. There are also possums around here too that I worry could find an opening into our walls and such. And there is a brown and white rat that was never caught to my knowledge, that was running between the two units, finding his way under our sink. Our oven had went out and it took them months to finally order a new one… once the new one arrived it turned out that it didn’t have the same plug as our other one, so we couldn’t even get it plugged in… and when the guy realized that he said they would have to recircuit the plug, and that they would be in contact with me as to when that would happen and he forgot to flip our breaker back on so we couldn’t even use the stove for a little while either. Months went by… and we still had 2 ovens in our kitchen that we couldn’t even use. Ended up buying an air fryer so we at least had SOMETHING. About after 3 months they finally sent a different guy out, because I kept calling for updates as to when they could get it situated, because again 2 ovens in a kitchen that I can’t even use is kind of ridiculous… and the guy didn’t even have to recircuit anything…. He did what he needed to do and got the new one hooked up no problem, and took the other one with. Poor thing, it was just the one guy there to do that heavy lifting. Our fridge also stopped working a few days before thanksgiving, and we went in to put in the work order as it was urgent with all the food we bought in prep for the holiday…. And they had told us it wasn’t an emergency and that it would probably be a week before someone was out to replace it, and to just save the receipts, but some of the stuff had been purchased a few months prior, so they wouldn’t have even been able to reimburse us for everything that was in the fridge as the receipts were probably loooong gone, not that I believe that they would have even actually reimbursed us. But I took the matter to Facebook and made a big stink, the post blew up with comments and over 200 reactions… they reached out 2 hours later and said someone would be out with a replacement, and it was the same one guy again who did my oven. He said they actually make him do that a lot, he’s hardly ever with anyone and that he was almost at his last straw. I’ve seen the indeed reviews… they don’t care for their tenants OR employees!!!! KEEP THAT IN MIND. Also have read that they hire vendors without the proper training/licenses, etc, and have possibly offered hush money for their employees to deceive tenants and continue acting on unlawful means. Speaking of, our basement is technically maintenance only… which made so much sense when we found out we had about 3-4 inches of standing water in our basement, that made the house smell like sewage, was being flushed out, and the guy doing it was through their own company, and wasn’t actually apart of MPG, he didn’t mind if I poked around. The basement had a bunch of old furniture and clothes, paraphernalia, animal feces… all just left down there for who knows how long. And our breaker boxes (for apt. 1 and 2) are actually down there… which legally we should have access to them.. especially seeing how MPG handles their maintenance requests.. we could blow a fuse and who knows how long we could be waiting for them, when we should just have access so we can handle it ourselves. They also do not have covers on them which is a safety hazard alone, especially since our basement has flooded before. Maintenance was just down there today (01/14/25) and we asked if there were any covers and he said no, but it shouldn’t be a problem because they are so high up, but, they are still required to have a cover!!! No matter the “height off the ground” it is electrical and should be covered regardless!!! Our doors also come off the hinges OFTEN and the new solution in our bedroom door was 10 SCREWS just to keep it on the hinge. And last, but not least, in October we had some personal issues occur and we weren’t prepared for it, and fell behind, and have been playing catch up since. We’ve been giving them everything we could while still making sure that car insurance was also getting paid, as it is a requirement obviously legally, but as well as for my job, to have insurance on my vehicle, I mean everything we could give them we did. Was usually $300-$500 every week. But the late fees also accrue. And despite us communicating, and letting them know about my overtime opportunities, or tax season being right around the corner, that we could get them more, even sold his car to make ends meet, and they’ve just been rude and refusing to work with us despite us being completely transparent about the situation. We had applied to the IERA when we knew we’re falling behind and have just recently been in contact with them finally! But they weren’t even willing to wait for us to hear back from them, prior to filing eviction on us this month, even considering we were still paying them while waiting on a response and making the effort (OT and selling his car), just to make sure they were getting sufficient amounts to keep them satisfied to give us the time for IERA. The eviction process will most likely be reversed at this point in time, but they were completely unforgiving during our hardship even through all the communication… SO given EVERYTHING I’ve just talked about… once our lease is up we are leaving and never looking back. And I really hope everyone sees this page, and all of these stories, and their similarities, and takes heed before signing a lease through them. They only care about their money, and what makes them more of it, not about providing stable and reliable housing for their tenants. Inexcusable, repulsive, the true definition of slumlords. They were already sued in 2023 for the same things people are still reporting about, settled for $35,000 for the allegations, LETS DO THAT AGAIN!! MAKE THEM PAY FOR THE UNNECESSARY SUFFERING THEY REEK ON THEIR LOCATIONS! Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t like to see MPG pay US for a change.
